Adoptable Dogs

Toby

Toby is a 6 year old spaniel possibly papillon mix. Toby has a bite history and will need to see a behavior specialist. Our vet has kindly already referred him to one. Toby will also need to be sedated for grooming. Because of his bite history, Toby would be best as a dog for a single older woman who wants a bit of security and a companion. Toby is fine waiting (sleeping) at home while you are at work. He would do best in a low traffic environment with no other pets. While he has done alright with our few cats and small dogs, he does NOT get along with large breed dogs. We would consider other pets in the home under special circumstances. Toby takes medication for his anxiety twice a day. We just slip it in some wet food and he takes it beautifully. Toby will need to regularly see your vet or the behaviorist for medication refills and check-ups. We require vet references. Toby is not a dog for a first time dog owner. He is a wonderful companion when you understand his triggers and quirks. Toby is wonderful with children. A bit too enthusiastic around them. He wouldn’t dare hurt a child but he does aggressively protect and claim territory over children, especially females. For that reason, Toby would be okay with an older woman who has grandchildren, but ideally, no children residing in the home for him to develop a insatiable bond to. Toby is neutered and UTD on all preventatives. Toby is mostly house trained, he does need reminding to go outside on occasion. Toby enjoys playing fetch, which he is very gentle with, and he is treat motivated. A fun fact about Toby is that despite his rough past, he takes treats the gentlest out of any of the dogs I have ever met! Toby loves riding in the car and will gladly jump right in the seat! Toby’s adoption fee is $200.
